Heritage versus Modern Conveninces

I went to a heritage house recently, somewhere I was once very famiiar with having been a room steward for several seasons.   The property itself is one of 6 historic houses/gardens in a 2 mile radius.  This fact alone is prettty remarkable.  The area is one of defined historical value to the country – sitting within a basin of staunchly royalist households heavily involved in the last few battles of the Eglish civil war.  Looking at the history of each house, it would sem that they were all built before that dreadful period and the remaining family homes reflect the fashions and designs being implemented at the time.  One of the local properties has great religious imagery and clever codes to hide the fact it was designed and built for a very catholoc family at a time when the faith was completely prohibited and punishment for being found out was generally a gruesome death.  Our home interiors today are so much safer.   We have family bathrooms with running water and flush toilets . . .  itted kitchens with simple to heat cooking methods.  None of that standing round getting a huge cacass on!
